Abstract

The objective of this study is to examine the systemic barriers that constrain the growth of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Sudan and to analyse their implications for economic development and poverty alleviation. Drawing on institutional theory, the resource-based view, and political economy perspectives, the study identifies key challenges, including governance and corruption, poor infrastructure, regulatory inefficiencies, limited access to finance, and restricted market access. This conceptual analysis highlights the interconnected nature of these barriers and emphasises the need for targeted policy reforms and future empirical research to enhance MSME performance in Sudan.
